All foam air filters need to be oiled prior to use to retain the dust withinn the filter media. The ITG oils, formulated specifically for foam based air filters, works by coating the foam cell walls so that when dust particles pass through it, they hit the oil on the cell walls and stick to it. The oil is designed to then encompass the dust particle so when more dust hits the same spot , it too is retained by the oil.
With out oil the dust has nothing to stick to and the samller particles are sucked through the filter and into the engine, potentially damaging the engine over a period of time.
ITG provides two types of air filter oil:
JDR-1: ITG reccommends this product for their Megaflow, Maxogen products for low dust conditions such as track and tarmac rally use.
JDR-2: ITG reccommends this product for their Profilter products for heavy duty or longlife applications such as rallying and very dusty conditions. |
