Racing Seats | Bucket Seats | Corbeau & MOMO Racing Seats

Racing seats, also commonly referred to as “bucket seats”, are something that true drivers spend a long period deliberating over which seat is right for them. It's so important to get the choice and the design of the bucket seat just right. Many drivers choose MOMO and Corbeau simply because these two racing seat manufacturers have huge amounts of experience constructing some of the finest quality racing seats in the entire world.

As any true driver knows, you can spend forever and a day adjusting the cars suspension, changing the tyres to offer different levels of grip and also tweaking the engine to get it roaring with power. However, if the feel of the car is “off” in terms of driving position, well, this can throw the driver off from winning the race! Therefore, everything needs to be set up correctly, from the gear stick to the steering wheel to the racing seats. The set-up of the car needs to be just right; to achieve this, you need to buy a quality motorsport racing seat.

Racing seats, or “racing bucket seats”, therefore help you to gain that perfect seating position. This is when the driver and co-driver get into the car; they know instantly it feels right and has been set-up for to improve the drivers’ chances of winning! We stock Corbeau and MOMO racing seats, two of the world's best bucket seat manufacturers and we are here to help you find the best seat for your rally car through to your GT speed machine.

What makes a good racing seat?

Especially in forms of motorsport like rallying, the driver and co-driver can sometimes be violently moved around in their seats during a race. Therefore, the bucket seats need to offer adequate support to help keep you in place. Of course, the racing harness does this important work as well; however, the bucket seat can help keep you in place when cornering by offering lateral support.

From a driver's perspective, it's all about the driving position. If you feel too high or too low in the seating position, it can mean you don’t have an optimum view of the road ahead. Then true drivers often talk about wanting to feel the car's pitch and roll, especially when cornering. Now, if you're seated too high, the centre of gravity is higher, and drivers often report feeling less connected to the rally car or the vehicle they are driving.

Next, there’s the material the racing seat is made from; certain suede materials are more grippy, helping keep you in place. Synthetic leathers are more slippery, meaning you can move around more.

Then there’s padding; it's all well and good to try to shave off every excess gram of weight from a competition car. However, if you emerge with a bad back and feeling extremely uncomfortable from the driving experience, then this is obviously no good, and the bucket seat will need to be changed.

Therefore, consider the level of padding the bucket seat offers. Is it too soft? Is it just enough to keep you comfortable when entering endurance races in rallying, for example?

Then there’s the longevity of the seat: the crashes, bangs, and the amount of cabin vibration transmitted through the car will be felt by the seat. How does the racing seat mitigate vibration, shocks and bangs, and has it been well made to withstand these stresses?

What vehicles are bucket seats designed for?

Bucket seats can be fitted to a wide range of motorsport vehicles, from your classic Ford rally cars through to ultra-modern Toyota and Hyundai rally cars. Whether in the 1980’s or today, drivers all demand the same things: a good seating position, a good view of the road ahead, and comfort.
