Nicky heads to San Marino for a very special ‘Champions for a Champion Parade’ at Rallylegends

Mc Rae Grist

Nicky Grist will be one of the guests of honour at Rallylegends in San Marino (19-22 October) this weekend, in an event paying tribute to Colin McRae.

Many of the past FIA World Rally Champions will be driving, including: Sebastien Ogier (VW Polo R WRC), Sebastien Loeb (Citroen C4 WRC), Miki Biasion (Lancia Delta Integrale), Juha Kankkunen (Lancia Delta Integrale), Tommi Makinen (Mitsubishi Lancer), Marcus Gronholm (Peugeot 206 WRC), Ari Vatanen (Ford Escort RS), Timo Salonen (Peugeot 205 T16), Didier Auriol (Toyota Celica), Petter Solberg (Subaru Impreza WRC) and Stig Blomqvist (Audi Quattro S1). Not even being with his son at the USA Grand Prix will prevent Carlos Sainz from making an appearance – albeit via Skype from Austin, Texas!

Rallylegends has received 140 entries from 21 different countries – and includes Thierry Neuville, Markku Alex, Sandro Munari, Louise Aitken-Walker, Martin Prokop, Andrea Aghini, Gustavo Trelles, Piero Longhi and Andrea Navarra. Number one seed Kris Meeke will lead the field away in a Citroen Xsara WRC.

One of the highlights of the Rallylegends weekend will be the Colin McRae Tribute Champions for a Champion Parade. Here Alister McRae will drive one of his brother’s old Subaru Legacys, while Nicky will co-drive for Colin’s father, Jimmy McRae, in a Sierra Cosworth.

“It is an unprecedented collection of drivers that will never get together again on such a grand scale,” says Nicky. “It’s an amazing achievement by Luis Moya and the event organisers to pull so many great names of rallying together – all coming to celebrate the life of a true rally legend.”

Nicky promises to bring some pictures and a report back after the event!
