Aitken named as Renault F1 Team Test Driver

Anglo Korean racer Jack Aitken has been revealed as the Renault Formula 1 Team’s Test Driver, continuing the career trajectory that has seen him linked to the French manufacturer’s premier motorsport programme since 2016.

The 23-year old first drove a Formula 1 car in 2017 and has been entrusted with the company’s latest machinery on numerous occasions since, fulfilling an important test and development role.

Having graduated from the Renault Sport Academy – designed to prepare young drivers for the very top of the sport – Jack will participate in the rookie tests for Renault F1 Team this season and also support race drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hülkenberg with a crucial simulator programme to improve overall performance.

Alongside his Formula 1 commitments, Jack will also enter his second year of the Formula 2 championship – just one step below Formula 1 on the career ladder – driving for Campos Racing.

“I’m obviously delighted to continue my relationship with the Renault Formula 1 Team and my path towards the ultimate goal of Formula 1,” said Jack.

“With every season it gets closer, but I also know that I have to perform at my very best to earn the opportunity, and that’s my absolute target this year. Thanks to the experience I’ve gained from the Renault Sport Academy and in Formula 1 testing over the past couple of seasons, I’m focussed on continuing to help develop the car through this very important role.”

Jack’s contribution to the team’s progress so far was acknowledged by Renault Sport Racing Managing Director Cyril Abiteboul.

“We’re very happy to have Jack among our very strong and experienced team of drivers for this year,” said Abiteboul. “Jack has impressed us when testing our Formula 1 machinery and we look forward to see him in action.”
