Cammish heads BTCC Jack Sears Trophy into second half of BTCC season

Dan Cammish leads the Jack Sears Trophy as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship’s summer break nears its end and the second half of series is about to begin.

The Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda driver more than doubled his advantage at the top of the points table last time out at Croft, extending an 11 point lead to 25 points.

Rory Butcher jumped from fifth to second after a great drive at Croft, which included a top 10 finish in race two, while Chris Smiley drops down to third – although they are only separated by three points.

Jack Sears Trophy driver of the day at Croft was Daniel Lloyd (pictured). He’d only joined the series last time out at Oulton Park, but after finishes eighth and ninth in the first two races at Croft, Lloyd then became the latest new BTCC race winner in the thrilling finale around the 2.13-mile circuit. Not only was it the first ever BTCC win for local man Lloyd, made even sweeter by coming at his home track, but it was also the first top-step success for BTC Norlin Racing in the BTCC.

“It’s been an amazing weekend. Massive thank you for the team who worked incredibly hard to get my car rebuilt after Oulton Park,” said Lloyd. “They put in long hours and had two late night finishes at the track to get everything sorted for Sunday. We started on the back foot this weekend and being P28 in FP1 there was a lot that we needed to do. We worked hard over Saturday, making some big changes to the car to suit me a lot more, which I was really happy with and even into race day we were still tweaking the car a lot to make improvements, even up to race three.

“It was only my fourth day in the car, so we are still learning a lot. It wasn’t just a win, it was much more than that for us, as we had to put in so much to just be there, which makes it even more special. I can’t thank the team and our sponsors enough and it was perfect that the team’s first win fell on the same weekend as the 50th year of the Isle of Wight Festival, who are one of our sponsors. I couldn’t be happier with the race win – it means a lot to us all.”

The winner of the Jack Sears Trophy receives a Stilo ST5 GT Carbon helmet, supplied by Nicky Grist Motorsports.

The next BTCC race meeting takes place at Snetterton on 28/29 July.
