Cammish takes unassailable Jack Sears Trophy lead

Dan Cammish has taken an unassailable lead in Jack Sears Trophy, provisionally winning the title in his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rookie season.

Driving the Halfords Yuasa Racing Civic Type R, the 29-year old Leeds-based former double Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion had another good BTCC race weekend at Silverstone. Having qualified on the sixth row of the grid, Cammish finished 10th in a tightly contested Race 1, used the mandatory hard tyres to finish 15th in Race 2 and finished 8th in the third and final race of the day.

The points gained at Silverstone gives Cammish an unassailable 74 point lead in Jack Sears Trophy, with three races around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit (29/30 September) remaining.

Once the final BTCC results are made final and Cammish is confirmed as Jack Sears Trophy Champion, he’ll be presented with a new Stilo ST5 GT Carbon helmet, supplied by Nicky Grist Motorsports.

“It’s terrific to seal the Jack Sears Trophy in my rookie BTCC season,” says Cammish. “The drivers that have won the title in previous years have gone on to achieve great things so I hope this will be the first of many big BTCC trophies with my name on!”

Chris Smiley remains second in the series in his BTC Norlin Racing Honda Civic, while Rory Butcher is third in an AmD MG6 GT.

Ricky Collard was the star of the Jack Sears Trophy at Silverstone, finishing third, fourth and 10th in his WSR-run BMW 125i M Sport to score an impressive 58 points on the day – giving him a total of 106 points from just three race meetings.

The Jack Sears Trophy, which this year is open to drivers who have never scored an outright BTCC podium finish, received two more competitors at Silverstone, with Ethan Hammerton and Josh Caygill making it 22 drivers in the series.
