Chadwick wins Lord Wakefield award

Jamie Chadwick has won the British Women Racing Drivers’ Club Lord Wakefield Trophy, presented annually in recognition of outstanding achievement by women in motorsport. Chadwick, aged 20 from Gloucestershire, made history in September 2018 by becoming the first woman to win a British F3 race. In 2015 she became the youngest driver and first female to win a British GT Championship, as she wrapped up the GT4 title alongside Ross Gunn. She became the first female member of Motorsport UK Academy’s elite talent development pathway, Team UK, late last year and is set to go far, having completed two tests with the NIO Formula E Team. Jamie has just been named as one of the 28 young women who qualified to the next stage of the W Series, after taking part in the shoot-out in Austria last weekend (26-27 January). “Thank you so much for awarding me with the BWRDC Lord Wakefield Trophy, it is a huge honour and I’m joining a long list of incredible names,” said Jamie. “I couldn’t think of a better way to round out 2018.” “The BWRDC are delighted to award their most prestigious trophy to yet another female talent who is leading the way in motorsport and is a fine example to other females looking to climb the ladder of success,”said Chair of the BWRDC, Lorraine Gathercole. “We wish Jamie further successes in 2019 and beyond.” Previous winners of the BWRDC Lord Wakefield Trophy include Nathalie McGloin, Katherine Legge, Leena Gade, Claire Williams and Susie Wolff.
