Confident Neuville prepared for “tough” WRGB

Thierry Neuville is aiming to make it three Dayinsure Wales Rally GB podiums in a row, as he brings a 13 point lead in the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers’ to next week’s event.

Having recently signed a three-year extension to his contract, which will see him drive for Hyundai Motorsport until at least the end of the 2021 season, Neuville also brings an air of confidence with him to Wales. Co-driven by Nicolas Gilsoul, Neuville has won three rallies this year – but even when things don’t go right, like at Rally Turkey, he knows that he could have won; a belief that was supported with an incredible fastest time on the Power Stage.

With Ott Tänak/Martin Järveoja (Toyota) second in the WRC standings, thanks to three rallies wins in a row, and Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (M-Sport Ford) just 10 points further behind in third, the battle for the world title is intense. A strong Wales Rally GB result is crucial to all three crews, and extending his advantage is the only thing on Neuville’s mind.

“Wales Rally GB is really enjoyable and has different characteristics to the other gravel rallies on the calendar,” says Neuville. “The past few editions of the event have been run in wet, rainy conditions but we are there a bit earlier this year so let’s see if the weather is kinder. Whatever happens, it will be a tricky rally, particularly on the second pass. The schedule is also tough with very early starts and late finishes; it’s an extra physical challenge. I have had two podiums in a row in Wales, so it would be nice to continue that streak. After the disappointment of Turkey, the championship fight is definitely on!”
