Dan dominates TCR UK opener

Daniel Lloyd, who wears a Stilo ST4 helmet, dominated the first ever TCR UK race meeting at Silverstone – qualifying his WestCoast Racing-run Volkswagen Golf GTI on pole and winning both races.

In the first race, Lloyd never looked like surrendering his early lead and romped home to victory ahead of Aiden Moffat’s Alfa Romeo Guilietta, with Ollie Taylor third in a Honda Civic. Lloyd went on to win the second race ahead of his team-mate Andreas Bӓckman, after Moffat retired with mechanical problems in the pits. Taylor was again third.

There might have only been 13 cars on the grid, a lot fewer than the TCR UK organisers were hoping for, but the action-packed racing was close and exciting and six TCR brands were represented – Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Honda, Hyundai, SEAT and Vauxhall.

Lloyd hopes to be able to take his 25-point lead into the second meeting of the season on the reverse layout at Knockhill (May 12-13), as he’s keen to extend his one-off appearance at Silverstone into a full-season assault on the UK’s first TCR title.

“I owe a massive thanks to WestCoast Racing, they’ve done an awesome job,” said Lloyd. “This opportunity was a late deal, we’re really pushing to carry on but I’m over the moon with this weekend. I’d also like to say well done to my team mate Andreas – it’s his first time in the series and he’s done a fantastic job, I’m pleased for him as well.”
