Dan Lloyd to race at TCR UK opener at Silverstone

The opening rounds of the much-anticipated TCR UK Series take place at Silverstone this weekend, and one of the drivers who will be taking part is Dan Lloyd, who wears a Stilo ST4 helmet.

The former GT and BTCC driver has extensive experience of the TCR concept, having joined the Craft-Bamboo team for the second half of the 2017 TCR International Series. The highlight last year was a brilliant second place in the opening race at Oschersleben, when he was only beaten by former F1 driver Gianni Morbidelli.

Dan will drive a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in the opening two TCR UK races at Silverstone, beside Swedish team-mates Jessica and Andreas Bäckman in a three-car WestCoast Racing squad. The 26-year old driver from Huddersfield was unable to meet up with the pair for the team’s recent test at Zandvoort, but his experience with the similar SEAT Leon in the TCR International Series last year means he is confident that the lack of seat time in the Golf won’t be an issue.

“I’m really excited about TCR UK and joining one of the most professional teams in the field,” says Dan. “It’s a one-off entry at present because of the budget situation, but I really hope it’ll become a full-season campaign as I had a good time in TCR International last year and I’ve had good sponsors in the UK in the past so it’ll be great to build up a UK programme again. The Volkswagen Golf isn’t too dissimilar to the SEAT I drove last year; it’s good that the cars are so alike as we haven’t been able to do any testing because the entry was such a last-minute deal.”

“We’re all really pleased to be adding a third car for the opening TCR UK races, particularly for such a talented driver as Dan,” adds WestCoast Racing Team owner Dick Jönsson Wigroth. “I thought he was one of the best talents in the TCR International Series last year and so I’m delighted that he’ll be in a WestCoast Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI for Silverstone. It’s currently a one-off entry, but I’m keen to expand his programme to a full season in TCR UK.”

The TCR UK calendar is: 31 March/1 April….Silverstone 12/13 May….Knockhill 2/3 June….Brands Hatch 14/15 July….Castle Combe 4 August….Oulton Park 8/9 September….Croft 13/14 October….Donington Park
