From Russia with dust

Russian off-road specialist Vladimir Vasilyev won the Baja Aragón, a round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies, at the weekend in a Toyota.

Co-driven by Konstantin Zhiltsov, fewer punctures certainly helped Vasilyev secure victory in Spain, as he finished ahead of series leader Jakub Przygonski in a Mini. Saturday’s leader Martin Prokop dropped to third in his Ford after picking up a puncture on Sunday’s 127km long final special stage.

Aron Domzala (Toyota) put in a good performance to finish fourth, ahead of Ricardo Porem (Ford). For Erik van Loon, the rally didn’t start too well, but the Toyota driver kept improving stage by stage and reached the finish line in sixth, ahead of Fernando Alvarez (Volkswagen) and Alejandro Martins (Toyota).

Xevi Pons (Toyota) had been third until a wheel bearing issue saw him lose a wheel close to the finish.
