Jordan ready for World RX action at Silverstone

Andrew Jordan will race at this weekend’s FIA World Rallycross Championship event at Silverstone, having recovered from a stomach bug which forced him to miss the third BTCC race at Thruxton on Sunday.

The 28-year-old driver from Lichfield in Staffordshire, who wears a Stilo ST5 F Zero supplied by Nicky Grist Motorsports, teams up with 2014 World Championship runner-up Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen at the Speedmachine billed event in a two-car MJP Racing Team Austria line up, driving the all-new 2018 Ford Fiesta ‘LionRX3’ Supercar.

Jordan began his career in rallycross, winning multiple titles between 2003 and 2006 and finishing as runner-up in the MSA British Rallycross Championship in 2007. He subsequently switched disciplines and was crowned British Touring Car Champion in 2013, but he has made sporadic returns to his ‘first love’ over the past few years, finishing on the World RX podium at Lydden Hill in 2014 with Olsbergs MSE. He progressed through to the semi-final stage at the same circuit in both 2015 and 2017.

“I’m really excited to be coming back to the World Rallycross Championship, and I could not have picked a better event than Speedmachine, which looks set to take the sport to a whole new level and an even wider audience,” said Jordan.

“As the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’, there’s something truly special about Silverstone and although I’ve not raced consistently in the discipline for more than a decade, rallycross will always be my first love and every opportunity I get to rekindle that flame is a total no-brainer for me.

“I’m under no illusions about the size of the challenge ahead of me, because the calibre in World RX’s Supercar field is tougher than ever right now, but I’ll certainly be doing my best to keep the home crowd on the edge of their seats.”

The other British drivers in the starting line-up are three-time British Rally Champion Mark Higgins, who will make his World RX debut in an Albatec Racing Peugeot 208, and Oliver Bennett in his MINI Cooper S.

The weekend will also see the start of the all-new Americas Rallycross Championship (ARX) with the likes of Tanner Foust, Scott Speed, Patrik Sandell, Chris Atkinson, David Higgins, Liam Doran and Timo Scheider racing.
