Maiden Euro F3 race win for series leader Ahmed

Enaam Ahmed, who wears a Stilo ST5 Carbon helmet supplied by Nicky Grist Motorsports, celebrated his maiden FIA Formula 3 European Championship race win at the Hungaroring last weekend – and immediately followed that up with race win number two!

The talented 18-year old, who won the BRDC British F3 Championship last year and who is contesting his first Euro F3 season, now leads the drivers’ standings by 18 points after six races.

To claim his first series victory, the Hitech Bullfrog GP team driver took the lead off the start line and was able to extend it during the race, which was held in very hot conditions.

“This success is a great feeling,” said Ahmed after his first victory. “I didn’t expect to win already on my second weekend of racing. The level in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship is very high and all the drivers are really good. Therefore, I had a really intense preparation for the season together with my driver coach during the winter, which obviously was good. In this race, my start wasn’t as good as Marcus’ [Armstrong], but still good enough to take the lead. Then, I didn’t take any big risks anymore, because I didn’t want to make any mistakes. Apart from that, it was very hot. I don’t particularly like racing in hot conditions.”

In the next race, Ahmed started from pole and was immediately in a three-way fight for the lead with Daniel Ticktum and Marcus Armstrong (PREMA Theodore Racing). Initially, Ticktum led, but ran too wide at the exit of the first corner and tangled with Armstrong. Ahmed benefited, took the lead and kept a very cool head to once again extend his advantage to the chequered flag.

“I had a poor start and Daniel overtook me. Then he had a problem in the first corner and I was able to take the lead. The fact that I am now leading the championship standings is nice, but doesn’t say that much. I know that in such a hard-fought series like the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, having a season with consistently good performances is almost impossible. The level is simply too high for that.”

The next FIA Formula 3 European Championship race meeting (Round 7, 8 and 9) take place at the Norisring in Nuremberg on 22-24 June.
