Meeke talks mud and glory

Kris Meeke says that mud and rain is a big part of why he loves rallying, so with Hurricane Lorenzo making its way across the Atlantic, there is a good chance the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT driver is going to really love this year’s Wales Rally GB.

He didn’t contest last year’s WRGB, but Meeke’s relationship with the Welsh forests goes all the way back to when he made his rallying debut on the 2000 Bulldog Rally, when he finished first in class in a Peugeot 106 GTi.

He’ll be travelling through the forests slightly faster this time, as he and co-driver Seb Marshall search for their first FIA World Rally Championship win together in the Toyota Yaris WRC.

“This is as close as it gets to a home rally for me,” says Kris. “My first ever rally was in some of the same Welsh forests that I’m now fortunate enough to drive a World Rally Car through. For me, the mud and rain you get there is a big part of why I love rallying. In early October the weather can certainly still be wet, but it’s usually less extreme than when the rally used to be held in November. We know that the Yaris WRC can work quite well in these sort of conditions, even if it gets really slippery. So I’m optimistic that we will go there with a quick car and can be confident of a top result.”

Kris Meeke and Seb Marshall wear Stilo WRC DES Zero 8860 helmets.
