WTCR champion chuffed with changed 2020 calendar

Reigning World Touring Car Cup champion Norbert Michelisz says that he’s chuffed with the revised 2020 calendar, which will see 16 races held over six race weekends in September, October and November.

The new Europe only schedule plans to start with a double-header race at the Salzburgring in Austria in September, before another double-header at the Nordschleife in Germany two weeks later.

Then will follow four triple-header race meetings in six weeks, at the Slovakia Ring, Hungaroring, MotorLand Aragón in Spain and finally at Adria in Italy.

Michelisz, who drive a Hyundai i30 N TCR with the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse squad, is delighted with the revised calendar, especially as it contains three races at his home track in Hungary.

“It's hard to describe how happy I am with the revised season calendar of WTCR which contains the Hungaroring too,” said the 35-year old Stilo wearing champion.

“I have the chance to defend the title and I can share my experiences with the fans on home soil which are the most important things for me as a champion.”

The proposed re-worked calendar for season three of the WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup is:

WTCR Race of Austria (Salzburgring, 12-13 September), 2 races WTCR Race of Germany (Nürburgring Nordschleife, 24-26 September), 2 races WTCR Race of Slovakia (Slovakia Ring, 10-11 October), 3 races WTCR Race of Hungary (Hungaroring, 17-18 October), 3 races WTCR Race of Spain (MotorLand Aragón, 31 October-1 November), 3 races WTCR Race of Italy (Adria International Raceway, 14-15 November), 3 races
