Description / Stilo ST5 F 8860
The Stilo ST5F 8860 carbon is the latest generation of racing helmets from this motorsport dedicated company.
While the look is unmistakably a Stilo, the ST5 is the narrowest and smallest shell in its class, and in recent F1 tests is aerodynamically superior. A first for Stilo is that the ST5 small shell now fits a person with a larger sized head, a feat all manufacturers in the past have been unable to do. This resulting in a larger and heavier shell having to be worn to accommodate the most popular heads - in size Large. The benefits for these drivers in wearing the new ST5 are numerous, much lighter weight and of course better aerodynamics from the much smaller shell and more room in the tighter spaces of a GT or Le Mans type vehicles.
The 8860 ST5F racing helmet with its FIA 3mm long visor for open top racing cars it has a visor that is tear off ready to allow perfect vision. With part fitted electronics, it is ideal for Formula racing when radio communication is required as this model comes with a built-in microphone and comm port, and it only needs a set of earplug speakers to complete the communication package.
Weighing just over 1400g (small shell) this has passed the very latest and tough FIA 8860-2018 standard, not just passed but well within the required tolerances. While it's the safest helmet on the market, the ST5 8860 is exceptionally light to wear, which greatly benefits the driver, when under the high G-forces of a modern high-performance race car. For the ultimate in lightweight racing helmets, we also have the Zero model which is a substantial weight saving again.
The opening of the helmet is now 5mm deeper, offering a far better peripheral vision. The new driver front ventilation system for open-top cars is a massive benefit, the ST5F has a new Top Air ventilation system (optional extra) for use in GT and Le Mans vehicles, this offers fresh air to the face and top of the head with a new channeled head cooling system for even more comfort.
Another major benefit to all ST5 racing helmets is the interior. A new double density liner offers an improved fit to give the user comfort levels never previously achieved. The super-soft liner next to the skull fits snuggly around the head giving a positive snug fit of unparalleled comfort. The ST5 F has the option of a side drink system which allows an integral drinking system, but in addition, space has been made for a frontal drinking system through the lower front vents, this now allows the helmets to offer this system without the need for major modification and scrutineer issues.
The helmet comes with Stilo's part electronics, with a microphone built into the front chin section, and an earplug connection fitted directly below the integral comm port to the one side of the helmet for easy connection of your radio system during driver pit changes.

Stilo Helmet Sizes
Stilo helmets are available in different shell sizes within the range of full face and open face helmets. ST5 helmets (full face) come in two shell sizes: small and large. The small shell covers all sizes from 54 (XS) to 59 (L). The large shell is size 60 (L+) to 64 (XXXL) The only exceptions to this are the ST5 CMR junior karting helmet which is only available in a new reduced size (narrower) small shell from 54 (XS) to 59 (L).
In Venti WRC, WRX and Trophy (open face) models, Stilo have developed a third (medium) shell size to keep mass and weight as minimal as possible for the most popular of sizes, 59 and 61. So now, for this range, 54 (XS) to 58 (L) are in a small shell, 59 (L) and 61 (XL) are in the new medium shell and 63 (XXL) and 64 (XXXL) are in the large size shell. Another development from Stilo in the new Venti range is that for the first time, Carbon, 8860 and Zero models are all available in the largest size shell, something not previously available in the outgoing models and this is also a size that other open face helmet brands do not offer.
Stilo Venti and ST5 helmets generally are a little tighter fitting than some other brands, so do bear this in mind when choosing your helmet size and speak with us if you need some help on this.
With the new Stilo Sport range of clubman open face helmets, there are two shell sizes, XS to M are covered by the small shell size and L & XL are covered by the large shell. One point to note is that the internal linings of the Stilo Sport range are a different fit to the WRC helmets, and the fit is a little more relaxed and are more true to size.

How To Measure Your Head
At Nicky Grist Motorsports we understand the importance of a well fitting helmet. Get it right and you are on a fast track to optimum performance, but get it wrong and you’ll suffer distractions and discomfort that can put your safety at risk.
The key thing to remember is not to simply take the circumference measurement and buy a helmet based on that size. We need to look at the width and length of your head also, as that does affect the helmet size you need.
To measure your head as accurately as possible and to help us provide you with the optimum fit, please measure as shown below and make a note of your sizing to send to us. Always wear a balaclava when taking head measurement for a helmet as the extra 2-3mm does make a difference to the circumference measurement and it also presses your ears nice and close to your head.
1. Circumference
Measure around your head with a tape measure. This must be above the ear and while you are wearing a hood (if you use one).
2. Length
Using callipers or similar device, measure the front to back of your head. This needs to be the furthest away points.
3. Width
Again use a tool of fabricated device to measure the width of your head at the widest points.
Callipers
These are quite a specific tool and we appreciate that not everyone will have a set lying around. If you are stuck, you might be able to fabricate something, but please get in touch and we can advise you further.
