Motorsport in-car cameras are used in both circuit/track racing and for recce and on special stages in a rally.
Dedicated motorsport cameras can be used during practice and live race events as long as they are secured firmly inside the car.
In-car cameras are useful to review race performance for circuit racing, but are almost imperative in a rally for watching back recce stages and checking pacenotes.
