Composite motorsport helmets are constructed from Multi Sandwich Fibres (MSF) in a design exclusive to Stilo and utilize Kevlar reinforcements.
Although carbon helmets are technically a 'composite', helmets referred to as Composite are made with a less expensive Kevlar sheets but are tested to the same standard. So a Composite helmet tested to FIA-8859 will be as resistant to impacts as a carbon fibre helmet with the same homologation.
What is a composite construction in motorsport helmets?
A composite construction is a cheaper material for manufacturing helmets which is why it is used to allow a more cost effective price of helmet.
Is a composite construction helmet less safe than a carbon version?
No it is not. A composite construction in a racing helmet passes the same FIA safety standards that a carbon helmet does.
