Saloon, Touring Car & GT Motorsport Accessories

Saloon, Touring Car and GT racing is, in essence, any form of motorsport where the car has a roof. This can include track day driving through to Fun Cup racing, BTCC, Blancpain and the coveted Le Mans Series.

Drivers in closed cockpits have different requirements to those in an open top or Formula car, so require products such as drinks kits, and air intakes as well as full face helmets with a sun strip rather than full visors, although visors can still be used on occasions.

One of the most well-known Saloon/Touring/GT series is the British Touring Car Championships (BTCC) and World Touring Car Championships. A form of motorsport where heavily modified road cars are raced on a closed circuit where drivers must acquire a racing licence and race in large groups of cars.

GT car racing is a similar sport, but racing is usually longer and the cars are modified versions of luxury and performance cars from manufacturers such as Porsche, Audi, McLaren, Bentley and Ferrari.

What FIA helmet do I need for circuit racing?

As a minimum, for circuit racing you will need an FIA 8859-2015 helmet. For higher echelons of motorsport such as World Endurance, Asian Lemans Series, ELMS or European GTs, you will need a helmet homologated to FIA 8860-2018 standard.

Which helmet is best for racing?

The best helmet for racing does depend on exactly the kind of racing you are competing in. The key is to get the best and safest helmet that your budget allows, you only get one head!

Can I wear a motorcycle helmet for a car track day?

This does depend on the trackday organiser. We recommend using a helmet that is designed for car racing use as this will have been tested as such and type-approved by a governing body for this use.
