STILO ST5 makes FIA 8860-2018 ABP helmet world debut in Formula 1

Following a decade of research, the FIA recently announced a new high-end helmet standard that will bring about increased protection for racing drivers in all major championships.

Premier motorsports helmet manufacturer Stilo worked closely with FIA throughout this process and is delighted to be the first, and currently the only, helmet manufacturer in the world to reach this exclusive standard and have the Stilo ST5 Zero ABP 8860-2018 helmet approved and certified by the FIA.

Valtteri Bottas successfully used the ST5FN Zero ABP 8860-2018 in Free Practice 1 at the Belgian F1 at Spa-Francorchamps last Friday.

The standard, called FIA 8860-2018, offers a number of improved safety features including Advance Ballistic Protection (ABP), replacement of the added zylon visor panel required by FIA in the previous generation of FIA 8860-2010 helmets, increased energy absorption and extended area of protection for drivers.

ABP allows a narrower eye-port for open-cockpit cars. A non-ABP version is available for closed-cockpit cars. Both helmet models are available with or without side-ports, depending on use.
